In the late 1960's when I first moved to Florida, the South Tropical Trail was a narrow winding 2-lane road starting from the western end of the Mothers Bridge connecting the Indian Harbor Beach and the southern end of Merritt Island. The western end of the island headed north towards the populous center of Merritt Island, near the state road 520. The Mather Bridge at the time was an old wooden bridge spent youth fishing at the western end and the western end of Merritt Island Old Mothers Bridge Fish camp. Along the trail, there are large houses in the large housing on the east side spreading to the west side along the Banana river, continuing to the Indian River. These "lands" collapsed by undeveloped land with a vegetation like the jungle, and gave this part of the island a mysterious and different world atmosphere. Looking for an unprotected teenager parked in a vacant lot, walking around in the evening and arriving at the sidewalk, there was a horrible man "Machehett madman". There was also a "girl in a glass coffin", but as the story progresses, a man raises his blind daughter until young teens young people miserably die. The father disturbs her death and the lifetime of blindness, like to spend her short lived "on top of the ground above the glass building of the coffin," she does not have to spend eternity in the dark " Entombs the daughter's body. Then, we had our own version of "Dead Man". It is a part of a track where a fatal traffic accident occurred higher than normal numbers. Normally, young drivers will show off late at night. The ghosts entitled "House of Ghosts" had a narrow curve drawn at the end of the Indian River Lagoon where deep trees were lined like "Dead Man 's Curve". The glass coffin girl was the story that you always heard the third hand. There was no one who actually saw her or who knew exactly where she was. I personally never met "Machete Madman."
However, it is one of the most interesting drives along East Coast's East Coast Space Coast, a drive between State Road 520 in southern Merritt Island and the Mother's Bridge linking the southern tip of Merritt Island to Indian Harbor Beach is Florida, and 3 You can drive in one section, but in my opinion, it will be farther you go farther as you become the best in the southernmost section.
Access to the northernmost tip is from the State Road 520 Causeway with the first stoplight located east of the Indian River Bridge from Cocoa. When approaching from the east, it will be the next stop light at the intersection of No. 520 and Courtenay Parkway in the south. The South Tropical Trail heads south from 520 and first blows off the residential area of about 3 miles in the wind, but in the past it ran along the eastern coast of the Indian Ocean River, and to the east a biologically diverse An river mouth spreads High-end home sites dominate. If you want to bypass the first leg, the second leg directly accessible from South Courtenay Parkway initially resides on both sides of the road but hugging the Banana river soon will show you a wonderful landscape. Of this beautiful river, in the west there is a beautiful house on a vast site.
The third or southernmost leg begins when the trail passing under Pineda Causeway begins and can be accessed or terminated at this point. This is the most beautiful part of the drive, as the trail is starting to hide the coastline of the Indian River Lagoon now west. The island is thin here and many attractive homeowners ranging from the Banana River to the Indian River and the Rain Forest are attractive gazebos and docks lining the coastline. Especially in the setting sun, there is a magnificent landscape. South Tropical Trail ends with Mather 's Bridge. At this point, the island crosses the bridge and heads east and Banana River Drive enters Indian Harbor Beach.
