Hiking the Logan Turnpike Trail -2

One of the many accesses to the Appalachian Trail is the Logan Turnpike that provides this access on the Testnatee Gap. Most of the hikes on this road are parallel to Towns Creek after following the turnpike to the gap. The trail was named after Frank Logan in 1997 and was one of the most influential people in North Georgia. Logan discovered gold in White County, North Georgia, and later opened up the path of growth in many markets in this region after the war. The trail is about 2 miles and is marked with blue eyes.

The road was built in 1821 and merchants carrying food and food moved to the south of Testnatee Gap. It was also known as the Union Turnpike, but previously he was walking a long way from Athens, Tennessee. However, as Blue Ridge Mountains traveled a long way in the turnpike, most travelers passed the Federal Highway for safety and travel reason reasons.

Leave the trailhead, departing from the historic marker near the tower's keeper's house on the street. The trail begins at the intersection of the national road and the forest service property line. The road is completely within the Raven Cliff Wilderness led by the Allied South of the South. Following the upgraded part of the old abandoned trackbed for the first mile, the road keeps going parallel with Towns Creek. Trails are easy to manage until you reach undeveloped sidewalks that intensify hikes. At this point, the trail approaches the Appalachian mountains trail and looks at the magnificent view of the drainage pond.

The road keeps a steep crossing while approaching the forest with a small river so I embrace Towns Creek Bank. On the lower slope, a small water spring will appear in Logan turnpike. Where some wet crossing is expected, clear water flows downstream. At this point, it will be the beginning of Town Creek across the West Side. As you follow this road, you attack the rock covered with moss and still go out to the river bed. It extends to the south two miles from the trail head and ends with Testnatee Gap. And with a little trivia, Testnatee is Turkish Cherokee. Tesnatee Gap is the North Access Point of Logan Turnpike, South Access is the starting point for Kellum Valley with Trailhead.
