Having brick houses and chimneys is considered to be a reliable way for many people to avoid maintenance of outside houses. Ultimately, Brick has been doing for decades - is that so? Well, bricks may last for years, but maintenance is not free. Brick does not mean you do not have to ask for repair. The outer wall of the brick house and chimney need basic maintenance. Cracking - Your brick house is still exposed to the same elements as a non-brick house, so you still need to do basic things. For example, sometimes, walk around your house and make sure there are no signs of foundation cracks or hairline fractures. Cracks usually occur because masonry has expanded and contracted due to heat, coldness or moisture. However, it may be caused by the settling of the house or the corrosion of the embedded metal. A common place to find cracks is near the corners of the structure, especially the foundation.
Coking or sealant - this is brought about by a lot of things, the most common being the house era. Another cause is loss of adhesion due to either too much sealant being used or not having enough surface to which masonry can adhere.
Inappropriate flashing - If the roof flashing is not installed correctly or it is loose, water may leak and there is a possibility of problems in the brick house. To prevent this from happening, make sure that the outer edge of the flushing extends to the outside of the masonry or is beyond it, the lap is sealed and water does not pass through the layers.
Thankfully, there is a positive measure that can be taken to ensure that masonry work is not necessary. Here are some steps to put home maintenance calendar.
· Check twice a year for signs of water leakage and mold. If you see this, please deal with it sooner rather than later.
· If there is a pump pump in your house, please make sure the pump is properly drained. This should be confirmed once a year.
· Check the chimney at least once a year and clean it as necessary.
