Water is the richest and is one of the most important and precious resources on Earth. Without it, all life on the planet will be extinguished. Citizen's access to clean drinking water is a measure of national development and people's growth. Sri Lanka is a blessed country. But there are especially northeast countries that still can not access clean drinking water directly due to numerous setbacks such as terrorism, war, and other civil wars.
After the civil war that the Sri Lankan government closed in 2009, the Government of Sri Lanka carried out the task of tremendous and tremendous developing countries through a wide range of development projects spread throughout the country. Sri Lanka government has lacked monetary resources to fulfill such serious challenges Since Sri Lanka, the Sri Lankan government has focused on improving infrastructure, such as access to roads, sanitation, clean drinking water, in postwar Sri Lanka Good opportunity to invest.
Makaldeniya Water Project is one such project. Makaldeniya is a small village in Haldumulla in the Badulla district. This village is made up of 67 Tamil families, mostly Sinhalese. In the past, the communities of both countries harmonized as a symbol of the powerful ethnic unity of the country. Regardless of race or ethnicity, people in the village had one problem: fresh drinking water. Everyday they had to rise the steep terrain to use the water and have to walk about long distances.
The Ministry of Economic Development launched this water project under the Gamidiriya community development program and supported the privileged citizen Makaldeniya. The estimated cost of the project was 1,213,269 rupiah. This cost was shared jointly with LKR 363,980, workers were donated via the community itself and the remaining LKR 849,288 was invested by the Gamidiriya Foundation.
Instead of using outside labor, the project encouraged the villagers themselves to participate in the completion of the project. Each house donated to LKR 2000 in cash and worked 29 days to complete the project. In this project we talked about a mountain spring at one end and a 600 m long pipeline connected to a storage tank at the other end. When using water in the tank, a distribution line of almost 3 km supplies tap water to all households.
This project was a big victory for Makaldeniya citizen. It was a project that gave people authority and helped build a strong understanding between Tamils and Sinhalese in the village. It was the only situation for all.
