 UCLA - Pac - 10 Season Preview <br/>-2

Going into the college football season, UCLA would have been my fifth-ranked team in the Pac - 10. But the Bruins just surrendered a 16 - point lead to the feeble Washington Huskies and fell by a final of 29 - 19. ; ve got to stick to my guns, while, and keep UCLA as the fifth-ranked team in the Pac.

Looking at UCLA prior to the season, I knew they were not going to be a legitimate challenger to the upper-echelon teams. But I figured that with QB Ben Olson under center, the Bruins would have a shot. Olson was once one of the Most highly touted high school seniors, but elected to go to BYU before leaving on his Mormon mission. And he 's no spring chicken. Olson is 23 and still has three seasons of illegibility, and he will be a solid one to lead this oath.

He 's got flashy RB Chris Markey, who has averaged 7.1 yards per carry this season. Markey came to UCLA out of New Orleans, and was a top-ranked back in high school; for The Bruins, moving out of state to pick up an RB is recruiting in the mold of their crosstown rivals. UCLA also has another out of state recruit who is now a senior, WR Junior Taylor, who is back from last season knee injury.

Taylor is now a prominent part of the offense after teasing up his knee against Oklahoma last season, and is joined by former Servite HS WR Matt Willis, who is another one in his senior year. Ben Olson likes having a number of WRs from which to he and # 39; s spread the ball around a ton in the early going.

But for UCLA, my biggest concern is their conservative nature on offense. When certainly cost them against Washington, when stud kicker Justin Medlock hammered four through the uprights. While it & # 39; s nice to have a kicker who can make field goals, if The way to win is by picking up the occasional touchdown, something the Bruins could not do.

Dorrell is a decent coach, but I have never seen the fire in his eyes, that killer instinct. I sincerely think that he may be a lot of what holds this program That got them on the ropes. That & # 39; s I'm afraid that I can not see him getting on a couch with a recruitment and doing the hard sell. what happened against Washington, and what might happen this season.

Right about now, Dorrell has to be wishing his as much as to the scores of the season, as their schedule is tough. team had found a way to hang on against the Huskies.
